Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Kern Medical Center seeks highly qualified applicants who are dedicated to women's healthcare and are ready to endure the rigourous medical and surgical curriculum of the four-year residency training program in Ob/Gyn. 

Our residency program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).  Information regarding the NRMP can be found here. The following are general guidelines and requirements for all applicants:

  • Applicants must submit their electronic application via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  • Three letters of recommendation not older than 9 months
  • Medical school transcript
  • Dean's Letter from medical school
  • Passing scores on USMLE Step I.  Applicants must also pass USMLE Step II prior to entering the residency program at Kern Medical Center as it is required for obtaining California medical licensure.
  • COMLEX scores are accepted for graduates of Osteopathic medical schools.

Graduates of international medical schools must also provide:

  • Certificate from the Education Committee of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
  • Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter from the California Medical Board (not older than 10 months)
  • Medical school diploma
  • Proof of U.S. Permanent Citizenship/Green Card
  • Official translation of all foreign documents into English


The deadline for submitting a completed application is the 4th Monday of November in each application cycle.  The application must be available to the Ob/Gyn department through ERAS by the deadline to be considered for a residency position.


Kern Medical Center offers three categorical PGY-1 positions each year, available through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) for the residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Interviews are typically held from October through January of each application cycle.  Applications submitted via ERAS are reviewed by the selection committee on a rolling basis.  Interviews are offerred by invitation only.
